Ingredients

4 large croissants

200g sliced ham (preferably smoked or honey-baked)

200g sliced cheese (Swiss or Gruyère work great)

2 tablespoons Dijon mustard

1 tablespoon honey (optional, for a touch of sweetness)

1 egg (for egg wash)

Fresh chives, finely chopped (for garnish)

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 180°C (350°F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Prepare the Croissants: If the croissants are not already sliced, carefully slice each croissant in half lengthwise without cutting all the way through, creating a pocket.

Mix the Spread: In a small bowl, combine the Dijon mustard and honey (if using). Mix well until smooth.

Assemble the Croissants: Spread a layer of the Dijon mustard mixture evenly inside each croissant. Start layering with a slice of ham, followed by a generous slice of cheese. You can use more or less ham/cheese depending on your preference.

Top it Off: Once filled, close the croissants gently. If desired, you can place a final slice of cheese on top of each croissant for an extra cheesy finish.

Egg Wash: In another small bowl, beat the egg and brush the top of each croissant with the egg wash. This will give the croissants a beautiful golden color when they bake.

Season: Sprinkle salt and pepper on top of the egg-washed croissants for extra flavor.

Bake: Place the croissants in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 12-15 minutes or until the tops are golden brown and the cheese is melty.

Garnish: Once baked, remove the croissants from the oven and let them cool slightly. Garnish with finely chopped chives for a fresh touch.
