Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 large egg

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried basil

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce

4 hoagie rolls

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Olive oil for drizzling

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Prepare Meatballs: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Mix the ingredients thoroughly until well combined.

Form Meatballs: Shape the mixture into golf ball-sized meatballs, ensuring they are evenly sized for consistent cooking. You should have approximately 15-18 meatballs.

Bake Meatballs: Place the meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Drizzle lightly with olive oil. Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes until they are browned and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 160°F / 70°C).

Heat Marinara Sauce: While the meatballs are baking, pour the marinara sauce into a saucepan and heat over low to medium heat until simmering.

Assemble the Subs: Once the meatballs are done, remove them from the oven and carefully place them in the marinara sauce. Stir gently to coat the meatballs evenly.

Prepare the Rolls: Slice the hoagie rolls open lengthwise, without cutting all the way through. Place them on a baking sheet. Spoon some of the meatball marinara mixture into each roll, using about 3-4 meatballs per sub.

Add Cheese: Top each sub generously with shredded mozzarella cheese.

Broil for Perfection: Place the assembled subs under the broiler for 2-3 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden. Watch closely to avoid burning.

Garnish and Serve: Remove the subs from the oven, garnish with fresh basil leaves, and drizzle with a little extra olive oil if desired.

                      Prep Time: 15 min | Total Time: 50 min | Servings: 4

                        - Presentation Tips: Serve the meatball subs on a wooden board lined with parchment paper, alongside a small bowl of extra marinara sauce for dipping and a side of crispy potato chips or a simple green salad for a perfect meal.
