1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 large eggs

1/2 cup buttermilk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Sea salt flakes for garnish

Instructions
 

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with paper liners.

    In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

      Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then stir in the buttermilk and vanilla extract until smooth.

        In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

          Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined.

            Fold in the caramel sauce until evenly distributed throughout the batter, being careful not to overmix.

              Fill each cupcake liner about two-thirds full with batter.

                Bake in the preheated oven for about 18-22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean.

                  Allow the cupcakes to cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

                    Once cooled, drizzle extra caramel sauce over the top of each cupcake and sprinkle a few sea salt flakes for that sweet and salty finish.
