Ingredients

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

2 large eggs

½ cup buttermilk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon baking soda

¼ teaspoon salt

1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1 cup toffee bits (crushed)

½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Whipped cream for serving (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan and set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar using an electric mixer until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.

Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk. Mix until just combined and smooth.

Gently fold in half of the crushed toffee bits and the chopped nuts (if using).

Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared pan. Drizzle with half of the caramel sauce, then layer the rest of the batter on top.

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Once the cake is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Once cool, drizzle the remaining caramel sauce over the top and sprinkle with the rest of the toffee bits for added crunch. Optionally, dollop some whipped cream on slices when serving.
