Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

4 large russet potatoes, thinly sliced

1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded

1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

1 medium onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup beef broth

1 cup sour cream

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 teaspoon dried thyme

1 teaspoon paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

¼ cup green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Cook the Ground Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil. Once hot, add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent. Add ground beef, cooking until browned. Season with salt, pepper, paprika, and thyme. Drain excess fat if necessary.

Layer the Dish: In a greased 9x13-inch casserole dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes on the bottom. Add half of the cooked ground beef mixture on top, followed by half of the sour cream. Sprinkle half of the cheddar and mozzarella cheese evenly.

Repeat Layers: Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, beef mixture, sour cream, and then the cheeses, ensuring the top layer is generously covered with cheese.

Add Broth: Carefully pour the beef broth around the edges of the casserole to prevent the top from becoming soggy.

Bake: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes. After 45 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown and the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.

Garnish and Serve: Let the casserole cool for about 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with chopped green onions for a fresh touch.
