Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter

1 cup packed brown sugar

1 sleeve of saltine crackers (about 40 crackers)

2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup chopped nuts (e.g., pecans, walnuts, or almonds)

1/2 teaspoon sea salt

Optional: 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a large baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, covering as much of the sheet as possible.

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and brown sugar together, whisking continuously until the mixture comes to a boil. Allow it to boil for 3 minutes while stirring constantly. If using, stir in the vanilla extract.

Pour the hot butter and brown sugar mixture evenly over the saltine crackers, spreading it with a spatula to ensure all crackers are covered.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 5-7 minutes, until the mixture is bubbly and just starting to brown.

Remove the baking sheet from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot mixture. Let them sit for 2-3 minutes to melt.

Once melted, use a spatula to spread the chocolate evenly over the surface.

If using, sprinkle the chopped nuts and sea salt over the melted chocolate while it is still warm.

Refrigerate the baking sheet for at least 2 hours, or until the chocolate has fully set.

Once set, break the crack into pieces and store in an airtight container.

Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 2 hours 30 minutes | Servings: 24 pieces
