In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine 1 cup of water and granulated sugar, stirring until the sugar has completely dissolved to create a simple syrup. Remove from heat and let cool.
In a large pitcher, combine the fresh lemon juice and the cooled simple syrup. Stir well to combine.
Add the remaining 3 cups of cold water to the pitcher and mix until well blended. Taste and adjust sweetness by adding more sugar if desired.
