Ingredients

2 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and cut into wedges

1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough

1 cup cinnamon sugar (1 cup granulated sugar mixed with 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon)

1/2 cup butter, melted

1 cup Mountain Dew soda (or lemon-lime soda)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.

On a clean surface, roll out the crescent roll dough and separate it into triangles.

Place one apple wedge at the wide end of each crescent triangle, sprinkle with a pinch of cinnamon sugar, and roll it up tightly, enclosing the apple wedge completely. Place the dumpling seam-side down in the prepared baking dish.

Repeat this process for all apple wedges, arranging the filled dumplings in a single layer in the dish.

In a mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, the remaining cinnamon sugar, vanilla extract, and nutmeg (if using). Stir well until combined.

Pour this mixture evenly over the dumplings in the baking dish.

Carefully pour the Mountain Dew soda around the dumplings rather than over them, which will help create a delicious syrup as it bakes.

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the dumplings are golden brown and puffed up.

Remove from the oven and allow to cool for a few minutes. The sauce will be hot!

                    Prep Time: 15 mins | Total Time: 50 mins | Servings: 6-8

                      - Presentation Tips: Serve the dumplings warm in bowls topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for a delightful dessert. Drizzle some of the syrup from the pan over the dumplings for added sweetness!
