Ingredients

1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined

1/2 cup cornstarch

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 cup cold water

Vegetable oil (for frying)

Zest of 1 orange

1/4 cup fresh orange juice

1/4 cup honey

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 teaspoon sesame oil

2 green onions, sliced for garnish

Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Shrimp: Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. Make sure they are completely dry for a crispier finish.

Make the Batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together the cornstarch, flour, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder until well combined. Gradually add the cold water, stirring until the batter is smooth and thick.

Heat the Oil: In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Coat the Shrimp: Dip each shrimp into the batter, allowing the excess to drip off before adding it to the hot oil. Be careful not to overcrowd the pan; fry in batches if necessary.

Fry the Shrimp: Fry the shrimp for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.

Make the Orange Sauce: In a small saucepan, combine the orange zest, fresh orange juice, honey, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly, about 5 minutes.

Toss the Shrimp: In a large bowl, gently toss the crispy shrimp with the orange sauce until they are evenly coated.

Serve: Transfer the shrimp to a serving platter. Garnish with sliced green onions and sprinkle with sesame seeds if using.
