Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1 lb ground pork

1 large onion, thinly sliced

2 tablespoons butter

1 teaspoon olive oil

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup breadcrumbs

1/2 cup shredded Swiss cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

2 large eggs

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon dried thyme

Salt and pepper to taste

Optional: Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

Sauté the Onions: In a skillet, heat the butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they become caramelized, about 15-20 minutes. Add the minced garlic for the last 2 minutes of cooking. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Prepare the Meat Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef and ground pork. Add the breadcrumbs, Swiss cheese, Parmesan cheese, eggs, Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, and the cooled caramelized onion mixture. Season with salt and pepper.

Mix Well: Using your hands or a large spoon, mix all the ingredients until well combined but be careful not to overmix, as this can lead to a dense meatloaf.

Shape the Meatloaf: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the meat mixture into a loaf pan, shaping it into a loaf. You can also form it free-form on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper if you prefer a crustier exterior.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) and the top is nicely browned.

Rest and Serve: Once cooked, let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing. This helps retain the juices for a more flavorful and moist meatloaf.

Garnish: If desired, sprinkle fresh parsley on top for a pop of color before serving.

                Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour 30 minutes | Servings: 6

                  - Presentation Tips: Serve sliced meatloaf on a warm plate with a side of creamy mashed potatoes and green beans for a comforting meal. Drizzle with additional caramelized onions, if desired, for an extra touch of flavor.
