Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend for the best flavor)

Salt and black pepper to taste

4 slices of American cheese

2 teaspoons vegetable oil

4 burger buns, toasted

1 cup shredded lettuce

1 large tomato, sliced

1/2 red onion, thinly sliced

For the Special New York Sauce:

1/2 cup mayonnaise

2 tablespoons ketchup

1 tablespoon yellow mustard

1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Make the Special New York Sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, ketchup, yellow mustard, sweet pickle relish, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Adjust seasoning to taste and set aside.

Prepare the Patty: Preheat a large griddle or heavy skillet over medium-high heat. While it's heating, form your ground beef into 8 equal-sized balls (approximately 2 oz each). Do not overwork the meat to keep it tender.

Cook the Burgers: Once the skillet is hot, add vegetable oil. Place the beef balls onto the skillet, about 2-3 at a time to avoid overcrowding. Using a heavy spatula or a burger press, smash each ball down flat into a patty. Season generously with salt and pepper. Cook for about 2-3 minutes.

Add Cheese: Flip the patties and immediately place a slice of American cheese on top of each one. Allow them to cook for an additional 2 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the patties are cooked through.

Assemble the Burgers: On the bottom half of each toasted burger bun, spread a generous amount of the Special New York Sauce. Layer with some shredded lettuce, a slice of tomato, and a few rings of red onion. Place two cheesy patties on top and finish by covering with the top half of the bun.

Serve & Enjoy: Serve the burgers immediately with your favorite side (fries or coleslaw) and extra sauce on the side for dipping.

Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 30 minutes | Servings: 4 burgers

                - Presentation Tips: Use parchment paper to wrap the burgers for a casual yet stylish look. Serve on a wooden board with pickles and chips on the side for added color and texture.
