For a great easy bangers and mash recipe, you need simple ingredients. First, choose your sausages. I like pork, but chicken or plant-based work too. You will need about 4 sausages for four servings. Next, let's talk potatoes. Yukon gold potatoes are best for creamy mashed potatoes. You need about 2 pounds, peeled and cubed.

Ingredients

4 pork sausages (or your choice of chicken or plant-based sausages)

2 lbs (900g) Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and cubed

1 cup milk

4 tablespoons butter

Salt and pepper to taste

1 large onion, thinly sliced

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

2 cups low-sodium chicken or vegetable broth

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Fresh parsley, chopped for garnish

Instructions

Cook the Potatoes: In a large pot, add the cubed potatoes and cover them with water. Bring to a boil and cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until fork-tender. Drain and set aside.

Brown the Sausages: In a large skillet, heat a tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the sausages and cook them for about 12-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown and cooked through. Once done, remove from the pan and keep warm.

Make the Mashed Potatoes: In the same pot with the drained potatoes, add butter and milk. Mash until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Keep warm.

Prepare the Onion Gravy: In the same skillet used for the sausages, add the sliced onion and cook over medium-low heat for about 10 minutes, until they become soft and caramelized.

Thicken the Gravy: Sprinkle the flour over the onions and stir for about 1 minute. Slowly pour in the broth, whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Add the Worcestershire sauce and let simmer for about 5-7 minutes until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.

Serve: On a plate, create a bed of creamy mashed potatoes, top with the sausages, and ladle over the onion gravy.

Garnish: Sprinkle fresh parsley over the top for added color and flavor.
