Ingredients

500g ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)

1 medium onion, finely chopped

1 clove garlic, minced

1 slice of stale bread (or 50g breadcrumbs)

1 egg

2 tablespoons milk

1 teaspoon mustard (Dijon or German mustard)

1 teaspoon paprika powder (sweet)

Salt and pepper to taste

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Oil for frying (vegetable or sunflower oil)

Instructions

In a small bowl, soak the slice of stale bread in milk for about 10 minutes until soft. If using breadcrumbs, simply set them aside.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, chopped onion, minced garlic, soaked bread (along with any remaining milk), egg, mustard, paprika, and parsley (if using).

Season the mixture with salt and pepper. Use your hands or a spatula to mix well until all ingredients are evenly distributed.

Shape the mixture into round patties about 1 inch thick. You should get approximately 6-8 patties depending on the size.

Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Once hot, add the patties, being careful not to overcrowd the pan (you may need to cook in batches).

Fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side until they are golden brown and cooked through. Adjust the heat as needed to avoid burning.

Once cooked, transfer the frikadellen to a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.

                Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 30 minutes | Servings: 4-6

                  - Presentation Tips: Serve the frikadellen on a platter with fresh dill or parsley on top. Pair with German potato salad or crusty bread and garnish with a side of mustard for dipping!
