Ingredients

4 large russet potatoes, thinly sliced

2 cups Gruyere cheese, shredded

1 cup heavy cream

1 cup whole milk

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon fresh thyme, chopped (or ½ teaspoon dried thyme)

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

1 tablespoon unsalted butter (for greasing baking dish)

½ cup panko breadcrumbs (for topping)

2 tablespoons parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with the butter. Set aside.

In a mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, whole milk, minced garlic, thyme, salt, and black pepper. Whisk to blend the mixture thoroughly.

Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of the prepared baking dish, slightly overlapping each slice.

Pour half of the cream mixture over the first layer of potatoes, ensuring even coverage.

Sprinkle half of the Gruyere cheese over the cream layer.

Repeat the process with the remaining potatoes, cream, and Gruyere cheese. Finish with the last layer of cheese for a delicious melt.

Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.

After 45 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

For extra crunch, sprinkle the panko breadcrumbs evenly over the top of the potatoes and return to the oven for an additional 5 minutes until golden.

Once done, remove from oven and let it sit for 10 minutes before serving.

Garnish with fresh parsley for a touch of color before serving.

                          Prep Time: 20 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour 10 minutes | Servings: 6-8
