Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1/2 cup diced cooked ham

3/4 cup milk

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped (optional)

Extra butter for greasing the baking dish

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with extra butter and set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder. Stir until evenly mixed.

Gently fold in the shredded cheddar cheese and diced ham, ensuring they are well distributed throughout the flour mixture.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and melted butter. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined; do not overmix.

Spoon the biscuit dough into the greased baking dish, spreading it out as best as you can – the batter will be thick and slightly sticky.

Pour an additional 1/4 cup of melted butter evenly over the top of the biscuits. (This is the swim part that makes them so delicious and rich!)

Optional: sprinkle the fresh chives on top for added flavor and a pop of color.

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the tops are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before cutting into squares.
