Ingredients

6 large croissants

200g sliced ham (preferably smoked or honey-baked)

200g grated Gruyère cheese (or your preferred cheese)

100g cream cheese, softened

2 tablespoons Dijon mustard

2 tablespoons fresh chives, chopped

1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Salt and pepper to taste

Optional: a pinch of cayenne pepper for added kick

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, Dijon mustard, chopped chives, and a pinch of salt and pepper. If desired, add a pinch of cayenne pepper for heat. Mix until smooth and well combined.

Carefully slice each croissant in half horizontally to create a top and bottom.

Spread a generous layer of the cream cheese mixture onto the bottom half of each croissant.

Layer 3-4 slices of ham over the cream cheese mixture on each croissant.

Sprinkle a portion of the grated Gruyère cheese over the ham for each croissant.

Place the top halves of the croissants back on and gently press down.

Brush the tops of the assembled croissants with the beaten egg to give them a beautiful golden color while baking.

Arrange the croissants on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, ensuring they are spaced apart to allow for expansion.

Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the croissants are golden brown and the cheese has melted.

Remove from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving.
