Ingredients

4 slices of sourdough bread

4 tablespoons marinara sauce

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup pepperoni slices (or veggie toppings for a meat-free option)

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon garlic powder

2 tablespoons butter

Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat.

Spread a tablespoon of butter on one side of each slice of sourdough bread.

Place two slices of bread, buttered side down, in the skillet.

Spread 2 tablespoons of marinara sauce evenly on top of each slice.

Sprinkle half of the shredded mozzarella on top of the sauce.

Add a layer of pepperoni (or your chosen toppings), followed by the remaining mozzarella cheese.

Sprinkle dried oregano and garlic powder over the cheese for added flavor.

Top with the other two slices of bread, buttered side up.

Cook for about 3-4 minutes until golden brown on the bottom.

Carefully flip the sandwiches using a spatula and cook for another 3-4 minutes on the other side, until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden brown.

Remove from the skillet and let cool for a minute. Cut diagonally and serve warm.

Optionally, garnish with fresh basil leaves for a burst of color and flavor.
