Ingredients

10-12 small fruits (choose from strawberries, grapes, or mandarin segments)

1 cup granulated sugar

1/3 cup water

1/4 cup corn syrup (optional, for extra gloss)

A pinch of salt

Bamboo skewers (10-12)

Optional: Edible glitter or sprinkles for decoration

Instructions

Prepare the Fruit: Thoroughly wash and dry the fruits you’ve chosen. Make sure they’re completely dry, as any moisture can prevent the candy coating from adhering properly. If you’re using strawberries, remove the green tops and pat dry.

Skewer the Fruits: Carefully insert a bamboo skewer into each piece of fruit, ensuring it’s stable and secure. You can group similar fruits together for a colorful effect or alternate them for variety.

Make the Sugar Syrup: In a saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, water, corn syrup (if using), and a pinch of salt. Place over medium heat and stir gently until the sugar dissolves.

Cook the Syrup: Allow the mixture to boil without stirring. Use a candy thermometer to monitor the temperature. You’re aiming for the hard crack stage, which is around 300°F (150°C). If you don’t have a thermometer, you can test the syrup by dropping a small amount into a glass of cold water; it should form hard, brittle threads.

Dip the Skewered Fruits: Once the syrup reaches the correct temperature, remove it from heat. Hold each skewer by the stick and quickly dip the fruit into the hot syrup, allowing any excess syrup to drip off.

Cooling the Candies: Place the coated fruits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let them cool completely at room temperature. If desired, sprinkle with edible glitter or sprinkles before the syrup solidifies.

Serve and Enjoy: Once fully cooled, your Tanghulu is ready to enjoy! Serve them on a platter or individually for a fun treat.
