Ingredients

1 pound ground beef (80/20 for juiciness)

1 medium onion, finely chopped

1 green bell pepper, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon tomato paste

1 teaspoon chili powder

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

4 slices American cheese

4 soft hamburger buns

Lettuce and tomato slices for garnish

Pickles, optional

Instructions

In a large skillet, heat a drizzle of oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and bell pepper. Sauté until softened, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.

Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef to the skillet. Break it up with a spatula and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.

Stir in Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, chili powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly and let cook for another 2-3 minutes to combine the flavors.

Lower the heat to medium and place a slice of cheese on top of the meat mixture. Cover the skillet with a lid and allow the cheese to melt, about 2 minutes.

While the cheese melts, lightly toast the hamburger buns on another skillet until golden brown.

Assemble the sandwiches by placing a generous scoop of the meat mixture onto the bottom half of each bun. Add lettuce, a few slices of tomato, and pickles if desired. Top with the other half of the bun.

Serve immediately while warm. Enjoy your Original Joe Sandwich!
